Nefast Neuralgia

1

The Scream, by Edvard Munch, public domain

Pain…

Insidious stealthy warrior

Assaulting unsuspecting nerves

Without warning

Sometimes without respite

For minutes, moments, days

The victim…

Squirming, struggling

Thrashing

And screaming

Aloud or in the mind

On and on and on

.

The fear…

Is permanent

Worries of what might come

For even though the pain is gone

Today…

But it is not gone

It is still there, I can feel it

Waiting

For a moment

For tomorrow

Or in a week

When it will return

And stage the next attack

.

Hoping for a cure

Hurting

Crying

Fearful

Yet hoping…

.

But

There is no cure
