Be Sure to Wash Behind Your Ears…

wash behind ears

When we were kids

Our world was simple

Our worries were small

Our believe in the future big

Our aspirations huge

And our world centered around ourselves.

We did not know it then.

When in our teens

We wanted to be grown up

So that we’d be allowed

To do “everything” our parents

Wouldn’t let us do.

We had no clue…

Decades later,

We know how terribly complicated

The grown-ups’ world is

And how we worry constantly

About our kids and families,

About jobs, food, our home,

And money;

Always money.

We had no idea

That on the day

We actually remember

By ourselves

To wash behind our ears

We would

To be able

To go back in time

And have our mothers

Remind us to do it.

I was wondering if I could include this post in a book I’m working on as a tribute to mothers. I’m collecting the stories of mothers, sons and daughters around the theme of motherhood. Your name, age and country will be included or you can be anonymous. I totally understand if you want to decline, but just thought I’d check. Feel free to email for more info:
