Parenting… ’til They’re Gone

child hand

First, newborn, they are so helpless;

They need you the most,

For everything.

Next, toddler, they explore all day;

They need you the most,

To keep them out of danger.

Later, children, they learn;

They need you the most,

To teach them knowledge and smarts.

Older, kids, they experience life;

They need you the most,

Life is so difficult…

Finally, teens, hormones and strategies;

They need you the most,

To see them through the worst.

Lastly, teenagers, rebellion and love;

They need you the most,

To fight, love, and remember.

In the end, grown, life on their own;

They don’t need you anymore,

They can – now – walk away.
